Over a Month Active!

Tuesday

Today, I looked it up and found that this blog has been going for over a month (the 16^th was when it was a month). Yay! I read some more of Ginny Returns, read new chapters for Elemental Sky (by sakurademonalchemist for those who don’t remember) and Seerking’s Asylum for Plot Bunnies that Won’t Stop Bugging Me and started rereading Stand Together and Smile. I also read some more of Homestuck and got to page 2793. That story just keeps getting weirder; I suspect it will get worse since it’s only somewhat over a quarter done.

Moving on, I read a few new stories (fairly short ones). The first one was ‘Naruto: Rise of the Emperor Revised’ by Snafu the Great. It’s based on one of the fairly common storylines from Naruto fanfiction: Naruto gets banished after the Sasuke Retrevial Mission (whether he’s successful or not) and either goes alone or with someone/somepeople to the ‘West’ which the elemental nations stay away from because they are always at war. Naruto eventually becomes Emperor (everything before this usually happens before the story) and Konoha eventually comes to him for help. How things are handled are different per writer. The second one is unfinished and I don’t know if it will be finished. It’s called ‘Ranma ½: Consequences’ by the same author. It’s about the consequences of things going wrong after the story. I didn’t like this one much because: it hasn’t been updated since 2015, is only 4 chapters so far and I don’t think its well written. It’s a ‘bashing’ fic (meaning bad things about certain characters are aired frequently) for the Tendo Family, Genma and most of the other characters. The last two are from the author White Squirrel. The first ‘Justice, Justice Shall You Pursue’ is a Harry Potter fic that has the Goblins arresting the Dursleys in the fifth year. The Dursleys call for the Lord High Chancellor of Britian to represent him and it leads to muggle government having more to do with events in the wizarding world. The last new story is I think finished, but it has a ending that allow the reader to fill in the blanks. It’s called ‘Petrification Proliferation’ and is another Harry Potter fic. It’s about what would happen if there was a procedure in the wizarding world for if a basilisk is found. It is enacted as soon as Harry tells Dumbledore and the Weasleys about it. I also walk some more, but only got a FarFetch’d. Though I did finally reach the second 10km I need for the Celebi quest … now I need to spin stops for 7 days before I can advance, yay! (that was sarcasm, in case you didn’t know). That’s it for today, see you all on the flip side!

Wednesday

Not much new today and it was rainy, so I didn’t do any walking today :(. There were new chapters for Taylor Varga and Reincarnation Roulette. I also reached page 3975 on Homestuck today. That may seem like a large jump, but there were a lot of short pages. Also, shit is going down, people and trolls are dying and there’s going to be a world reset coming up. Yeah, and we’re only almost halfway done. (side note, if you have trouble keeping up with multiple characters & or timelines, this is not the story for you, Trust Me). On another note, I read a chapter or two of Pick up the Pieces (and Take Stock). I mentioned it a while ago, because I was reading its sequel. I like it a lot because it’s about a non-main (but important) character dealing with the shit the main character (and others) did in the aftermath of the story.

Seerking’s new updated story this week is called ‘Pain and Hatred: A Stray Devil’s Tale’ and is a Highschool DxD story. It’s about a powerful stray (meaning they betrayed the devil who turned them into one from whatever their original species was) devil who needs Issei’s gear for something. This person is seen as a bad person, but not all is as it seems. You need to know quite a bit about the original story to really understand what is going on. I’ll take this time to talk about the Gundam series. There are several Gundam continuities, but the first series was called “Mobile Suit Gundam”. Gundams are ‘mobile suits’ (which are a large human shaped robot used in battle) made out of Gundanium. They are typically used as the turning point in a war of some kind (quite often between space colonies and Earth). The previously mentioned series has many sequels in its continuity the Universal Century. There are a few other continuities, but the ones to watch are Gundam 00, Gundam SEED, G Gundam, Gundam Wing and the newest (but one of the best) Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. It may seem like a lot, but they’re worth watching. Also, there are a few really good Gundam video games that crossover between the continuities.

Thursday

It was rainy again today (though more so), so again no more walking <_>. I’m now up to chapter 4463 of Homestuck (finally over the middle mark). Yeah, so now we’re being introduced to some new old characters (I’m not even gonna try and explain this one. Read if you really want to know). Read some more from Pick up the Pieces (and Take Stock), but what I was really excited about was that From Fake Dreams got a new chapter! I was ecstatic that one came out (especially so soon after I reread it). The trial is almost over and the next thing is lurking in the background.

Other than I’m rereading a story called ‘No Need for Harry’ by Pheonix Dawn. I’m waiting (without much hope) for them to continue another story that I’ll talk about later. This one is a Harry Potter and Tenchi Muyo crossover. Tenchi Muyo is an anime about the character who it’s named after and his adventures with the females and family that he discovers (that are from outer space). In the story, Harry uses a power in the graveyard that only Tenchi could use. The characters from TM discover this and go and get him from his relatives. Que massive changes. The new story I started reading is called, ‘The Accidental Animagus’ by White Squirrel. It uses a common fanfiction tropes of Harry turning into a cat and escaping the Dursleys, along with the Granger’s adopting him. Haven’t gotten far into the story, but at least Dumbledore doesn’t seem like a bad guy in this one (and only slightly misguided). A Diverse Weekend

Friday –

Today was an interesting day as I went through many fanfiction to find one that would keep my attention. I’ve had this problem before, either I have to find something else to do or I find a fanfiction that can keep my attention. This one lead me through several including several whose original stories I haven’t mentioned here yet. I finished reading Heroes Assemble! and then moved onto ‘Skittering Campione’ by Greatazuredragon. It’s a crossover between Worm (Skitter is Taylor’s first cape name) and a series called Campione!. It was a light novel then became an anime that only has one season so far. The main character (Godo Kusanagi) is a normal high school student until on trip he finds himself in a fight between two gods who have become ‘Heretic’ (meaning they rebel against being wherever they normally are and cause destruction to the world). Through a set of unlikely circumstances (Or the most obvious circumstances if you look at how often that happens in stories), Godo defeats one of the Gods with the help of a ‘witch’ and becomes a Campione or God Slayer. This means he gets power from the God(s) he defeats. Look it up, it’s good.

Anywho, in the fanfiction at the end of Worm, Taylor is transported to Campione! universe and is transformed in a campione because of her defeat of the big bad of her universe. Watch as her actions change the Campione! universe for the good, funny and weird. I went through a few one shots after that and only one was interesting, but it was an omake of a conversation in another fanfiction that would only take longer to go through, so I’ll talk about the omake when I read that fanfiction. The next one I actually read was ‘A Growing Affection’ by Xavon Wrentaile. It is a Naruto fanfiction. Like Harry Potter is the top of the Book section of FF.net in number of stories, so is Naruto the top of the Anime section. I’m actually surprised it too me this long to get to a Naruto story. For those of you who don’t know, Naruto is about a young boy who wants to became a ninja and the leader of his village, the Hokage. The only thing wrong with that is that most of the village hates him because he has a great monster (The Kyuubi) sealed in his gut through no fault of his own. Watch or read as this boy goes through hard work, teachers who barely teach him anything, getting hit by teammates, betrayal, hate, anger and many other things to save the world and gain the love and affection of the village that hated him (Yeah like KHR, I have some issues with the way the main character is treated. I mean his godfather doesn’t even come in until after the first few arcs and it’s never even mentioned that he’s his godfather until later when we find out who his parents were in the sequel story set three years after the original story ends.) There’s also now a story about the new generation out too, Boruto.

Moving on the fanfiction is set in the sequel story Naruto Shippuuden and follows an alternate storyline and focuses on Naruto getting together with Hinata (my favorite pairing that’s also canon) and dealing with the issues around him. I started another new story with a new original story, but since this one is already fairly long, I’ll talk about it tomorrow. Which you’ll be able to see right away ^_^

Saturday

So I’ll start off the story I mentioned in yesterday’s part, ‘Soul Chess’ by draconichero21. This a one of favorites and it is a crossover between Code Geass and Bleach. Bleach, for those who don’t know, is like Naruto as being one of most popular mangas/animes of the past generation (as the original generation of Naruto is finished anyway). It’s about Ichigo Kurosaki a high school student who can see ghosts. He has a run in with a Hollow (Monster spirits who want to eat you) and a Shinigami (‘Good’ spirits who have the power to purify Hollows and send ghosts to the afterlife) named Rukia Kuchiki. He ends up becoming a Shinigami and gets involved in (Wouldn’t you know it) a plot to save the world (because the afterlife is crap and nobles who don’t care about people run it). Other than my personal issues with the governing system of the afterlife (Soul Society), this is a good story. Though it gets convoluted in the last arc.

In the fanfiction, Lelouch from Geass ends up in the Soul Society long before even the flashbacks in Bleach. Watch as his actions change things, for better or worse. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you’ve at least watched Code Geass and possibly a bit of Bleach too. It’s 208 chapters and a teaser for a remake fic with more crossover characters in it to be at sometime in the future. I also reread the fanfiction ‘Pick up the Pieces and Move On’ by the first author I mentioned, Umei no Mai. It’s a sequel to the fic ‘Pick up the Pieces and Take Stock’ and they both deal with the after story of KHR through the lens of Xanxus in dealing with a ‘father’ who can’t see how he wronged Xanxus, a to-be leader who doesn’t know anything and doesn’t want the job and all the mental and physical issues he’s got because of his upbringing and the KHR story. They’re both good stories that are 8 chapters each with a third and final story in the works that Umei no Mai will finish before continuing Black Sky. I read more than 20 chapters of Growing Affection and a new chapter for the story, ‘Stark Imprint’ by Arthur Hansen which is a crossover story between Worm and Ironman. One of Tony Stark’s suits ends up in the Worm universe and when Taylor finds it (a few years before Worm’s start), it downloads a copy of his brain into hers. She gets his memories and talents while remaining herself and becomes a non-powered cape in the Worm-verse. Sunday

Today I went to a small birthday dinner for a church friend and learned that her granddchild has written fanfiction and is on FF.net. I haven’t read either of their stories, but their user name is DesertAnubis. There is a Dragon Ball Z fic (that’s been abandoned after 35 chapters) and a new Yu-Gi-Oh! fic that has been finished IRL, but is slowly being posted. I read some more Soul Chess and Growing Affection, but other than that I just have a story I started rereading and a new chapter for a story I haven’t mentioned yet. The story is called ‘Broken Dreams’ by ThunderReborn and is a Bleach story where after the Winter War, things are different and Ichigo gains his enemy’s sword and most powerful tool. He is trained by them and his own sword while everyone thinks he’s powerless and ignores him. When he graduates high school he walks away and has several crossovers (starting with High School DxD). The new chapter is from the fanfiction ‘ Mending the Knots’ by azndrgn (the author who I’m editing for on another story). It’s a RWBY story where Jaune doesn’t get into Beacon and starts a massage business. It’s fun and still has your favorite characters in it. The main reason I didn’t read much else is that I got the app Fate/Grand Order (from the same universe as Fate/Stay Night [though without the rated R stuff]). I got caught up in it, KHUx and PoGo (I finally moved on to the fourth set of the Celebi quests). See you tomorrow when I actually post all this.

Monday

So as usual for today, I read the new chapter of Mauling Snarks. I also spent time on Fate/Grand Order and KHUx again. I also reread two stories by SeerKing that are finished or not currently being worked on. They are ‘RWBY – Poison Promise’ and ‘RWBY – Flame of Atonement’. In the first one, Ruby is posioned and it deals with finding who did it and curing her. The second one deals with the aftermath. Poison Promise done at 10 chapter and Flame of Atonement is on hiatus at 4 chapters. I read sakurademonalchemist’s newest story (Again not finishing any of their older ones) ‘Elemental Sky’ in which a female Tsuna learn that she is cousins with the Sand Siblings from Naruto (Temari, Kankaro, and Gaara) and goes to visit them (at a time before the chunin exams). I also started rereading the story ‘Becoming a Man Among Men’ by Dragon6. It is based on the Ranma 1/2 story which is about Ranma, a high school aged martial artist who accidentally falls into a cursed pool that causes him to become an aquatransexual (which means he turns into a girl when hit by cold water and back to a boy when hit by hot water). He is then forced to agree to marry one of three daughters of his (abusive, thieving, lying, habitually agreeing to marriage contracts for his son for silly things) father’s friend. Ranma has to deal with multiple fiancees, men who are after said fiancees and people who blame him for what his father did (I swear, I have not seen a story with so many character with daddy issues and some mommy issues). Becoming a Man Among Men has Ranma reading his father’s journal after becoming an aquatransexual and learns of all of his father’s misdeeds and his planning to marry him to his friend’s daughter. The Second Day

Hello everyone. You’ll be exited to know that I finished Black Sky and am going to move onto a new story! I’ve decided to reread a fanfiction that I haven’t been keeping up with recently called ‘Ashes of the Past’. It’s a time travel Pokemon fanfiction by Saphroneth. It’s another longer fanfiction that with the newest chapter today has 279 chapters. The premise is that the main bad guys from Diamond and Pearl [DP] (Team Galactic not Team Rocket because while the main trio was somewhat competent in Black & White or Best Wishes [BW], they’re basically a joke) fulfills their goal at the end of BW while Ash isn’t around and destroys the universe. Ash is chosen (as usual) to go back with his memories and stop their plans by Arceus (the Pokemon God that was not ‘Lord Helix’). He gets a crash course in aura (which was basically ignored after being introduced) and goes back to start of his journey. Luckily, aura allows him to remind his friends and Pokemon of their memories up to the end of BW (and allows him to understand Pokemon). It’s very silly and has only really gotten serious in the latest chapters now that it has gotten to the DP storyline. The link to it is – http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7262793/1/.

Before I talk about the rest of what I did today, I wanted to have a rant. Now I like Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn (KHR), but there are so many things wrong with the way the main character is brought up and treated that I was reminded of in Black Sky. Before people start going on about how it’s only a story, let me say this – kids read or watch these stories and are affected by how characters (especially the main one) act and are treated.

Tsunayoshi or Tsuna is the main character of KHR. When he activates his inherited ability at the age of five, his father convinces his boss (a mafia boss) to seal it because he doesn’t want his kid in the mafia (because the ability is only used by mafia). This is great because what father wants his kid in the mafia, never mind that said father is in the mafia himself, is never home, and tells his wife and kid that he’s off being ‘a star’. What a great example of a father, not!

Putting that aside, sealing what is considered his Will either made him clumsy and unable to concentrate or he had a disability and no one ever did anything about it. This leads to him being bullied by students and teachers and given the nickname “No-Good Tsuna.” What does his mother, the only parent he really knows, say to this? “What did I do to have such a no-good son.” Wow mom, what a job of parenting you’re doing. Then the other main character shows up, Reborn.

Reborn was sent to teach Tsuna how to become the next boss of an Italian mafia because the mafia boss that sealed him (which Tsuna didn’t know about and which isn’t even released until later in the series) three son’s have all gotten killed and he’s the only Heir left. This is ignoring that he’s a Japanese civilian who is thirteen years old that has been bullied and ignored by his father and looked down upon by his mother. Also, who would want to be the Heir of a mafia family that can’t even keep it’s own Heirs safe?

Now, knowing all this does Reborn (who looks like a baby and claims to be the “Greatest Hitman”) help him work through his problems? Yes, by shooting him with bullets that will kill him if he doesn’t have a regret in order to activate his ability through the seal, kicking and pushing him around, and ignoring the fact that Tsuna doesn’t want to be a mafia boss in the first place. Wow, what a great mafia boss he’ll be, being used to getting pushed around by someone else to get what they want and possibly hating the mafia because they ruined his life. I know I’d love for him to be the boss of the mafia I’m in! … (That was sarcasm, if you couldn’t tell).

Okay rant over, don’t get me started on Albus Dumbledore though. Moving on, over the past few days I have been working on finally getting the Ghost Pokemon medal on Pokemon Go (PoGo). There is a nest of Duskull nearby and today I finally got the medal! For those who don’t know, that means I’ve caught or hatched 200 ghost type pokemon on PoGo. The was the second to last pokemon type medal I’m missing. The last one is the dragon type medal and I’m only missing 19 dragon types until I get it.

I started PoGo on the first day it came out and am only missing the regionals not in the US except Farfetch’d. I’m not a shiny hunter, but I do have some. I haven’t got Regirock, but since it only came out yesterday and I haven’t raided in the last few days. It’s fine, it’ll be around of another month anyway. My friend code is 1255 5332 9245, if you play PoGo. I’ll do my best to sent gifts, but don’t get enough most days to send to everyone I’m already friends with. However, I’ll do my best to raise our friendship if you do friend me. I’m looking forward to it!

Like yesterday, I read some new chapters of stories I’m following. The one I’m going to talk about is called ‘Mauling Snarks’ by CmptrWz. It’s another Worm story like Taylor Varga, but isn’t a crossover. In Mauling Snarks, one of the main bad guy groups is not really one, but pretends to be because their members have powers that lean towards destruction and are sent against those the good guys can’t go after for one reason or another. The leader of this group is the uncle of Taylor (only in this fiction) and visits when she is stuck in the locker. His power affects hers (because family have similar powers) and she gets a different one than the original story. Like Taylor Varga, chaos and amusement abound. The last thing I’m going to mention is that I’m also going to start working through a collection of stories by H.P. Lovecraft because several things from them are mentioned in Taylor Varga and even though he’s a horror writer, I’m curious. By the way, I plan to post at least once a day, just to let people know. The Second Post

Hello again! Thanks to everyone who has already liked, followed or posted, your response is appreciated. Shout out to Yomu for being the first to comment! To finish up a story I didn’t realize I hadn’t last time, after finding the “Cardcapter Sakura” manga I read the whole “Master of the Clow” series and didn’t realize that it was a sequel series to the original “Cardcaptor Sakura” series until afterwards. I can now look back on that and laugh. By the way, that series is by a group of authors called CLAMP. They’ve written many great series like Tsubasa RESERVior CHRoNiCLE, xxxHolic and Chobits to name a few. They also have another “Cardcaptor Sakura” series called “Clear Cards” which has an anime too. I can go into those series later.

In the time since I wrote my first post I read a few more chapters on Black Sky and am now at chapter 234. But I have read more than that though. I follow a great many stories on Fanfiction.net, Archive of Our Own (AO3), etc. Sadly many I am following are no longer posting or abandoned. However, one I am following who has just not been able to get the time to write has finally posted a chapter! The series is called ‘Taylor Varga’ and is a crossover between an online serial “Worm” and an short really old anime very few know called “Luna Varga.”

Worm is not a happy story, let me put it that way. When the main characters’ backstory includes getting locked in a school locker, that was full of fermenting female products left to rot over a winter break, for several hours and the school basically ignoring it (for a reason unknown to the character), yeah not a happy story. Worm involves the dark side of superpowers and how badass the power to control bugs really is, which the main character Taylor gets for being locked in the locker. I’ve probably only read the very first section of it, but I know a lot about it just from reading the fanfiction about it and looking up relevant information when I needed it. I enjoy reading the fanfictions because while they don’t (often) ignore the issues in the story, they do a better job in my opinion of solving them.

I still actually have not looked up Luna Varga to watch, I really should sometime, but the basics as I know it are that a princess merges with a lizard like demon to protect her people against another of his kind. ‘Taylor Varga’ has a power giving Taylor the Varga demon instead of her getting the bug control power in the locker. Chaos then ensues, humorous chaos and much confusion. I was directed to this fanfiction by another author, but spent days reading it a having a good laugh, including the omakes (side stories that don’t actually happen in the story or at a future time for those who don’t know) which have Harry Potter and Marvel miniseries. The story is on it’s 25th tab on the Sufficient Velocity (SV) reader mode (which only has the main story not the omakes or the comments). The author mp3.1415player has cross-posted it on Fanfiction.net and AO3, but mostly focuses on SV so the other’s aren’t caught up. I also read some new chapters from other stories. Two were from the author sakurademonalchemist on Fanfiction.net and are the latest in a long line of stories the author has started, posted some chapters on, then started a new story. They’ll occasionally post a new chapter to an old story, but not often. sakurademonalchemist if you ever read this, I’m sorry, but it’s true. I still enjoy your stories, but I wish you would finish them. Having said that, they do finish some stories. One such is Memories of Nobody, a great Harry Potter and Kingdom Hearts crossover that involves Xion, one of the saddest characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, taking Harry’s place after he is killed to save him and his parent’s hearts after her story ends in Kingdom Hearts. I’m gonna talk a little about Kingdom Hearts since it’s been mentioned. I’ve played Kingdom Hearts since I was in middle school and next to Pokemon it is my favorite game series. I am ecstatic that Kingdom Hearts III is finally coming out early next year and sad that they moved it from this year. I don’t have much time to replay the series, but I’ve been watching a youtuber called SkywardWing play through ‘the games’ (insert Phil from Hercules voice here). He’s a laugh and is one of the first people to play part of Kingdom Hearts III. Hello & Welcome

Hello, I’m Matt. I decided to start this blog in order to write more and share what I’m reading and watching and my thoughts on them. I’ve been reading a lot of fanfiction lately, but am looking to read or reread books more often. I’ll also be posting about the movies, TV shows & anime that I’m watching as well.

I’ve been a reader since I was young. I’ll read most genres except Gore, but I’m not a huge horror fan. I’ve been interested in Japanese animation since I was very young, when my brother gave me Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro and I watched shows such as Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Dragon Ball Z. Even though I read a lot when I was younger, it wasn’t until I was in middle school that I found manga. I was in a Barnes & Noble looking through book titles when I found a book titled, “Cardcaptor Sakura: Master of the Clow Vol. 1.” I was interested because I’d seen the show on TV and so I bought it. When I got home and started to read it I learned that it read backwards and had to learn a new way to read. It took me a few weeks to get used to it and now I can switch between the two reading styles with no effort.

Switching topics, I was an avid fan of Pokemon from the beginning. I played Red and Blue, played the card game and went to card events where you could earn badges and special cards. I followed the handheld games until they switched over to the DS, which I didn’t get until much later, and I stopped really following it. Later in late 2013, when I didn’t have much to do I picked up X and Y. I then spent a lot of my time collecting all the Pokemon out and have continued this into Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon along with Pokemon Go. I’ll probably talk about what’s happening on PoGo on here as well with the release of Celebi and hopefully Smeargle next week along with the Regirock’s introduction to raid that happened today.

I’ve been rereading the fanfiction ‘Black Sky’ by the author Umei no Mei on Fanfiction.net for the last few days. Here is a link to the story – http://www.fanfiction.net/s/10727911/1/. It is an interesting crossover story between Harry Potter and Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn (KHR). It features a female Harry and currently has 295 chapters, but the author is on a break from the story right now. Umei no Mei also has several other stories, so be sure to check them out if Black Sky interests you.

Black Sky is an interesting story because it starts from young female Harry’s, named Dorea, birth and has several chapters showing her growing up before she goes to Hogwarts (thankfully not at the Dursleys). It also starts long before the start of KHR and doesn’t even mention the main character of KHR in the story until well into the 100’s. I enjoy this story because it doesn’t let itself get caught up on following the events of the ‘Harry Potter’ series and actually wraps the main content of that series within 75 chapters.

I will freely admit that I ‘ship’ Harry and Ginny and that I enjoy reading those stories that have that as a pairing. People can say how he belongs with someone else, such as Hermione or Luna, but I have my reasons that I can go into later if anyone is interested. However, I am willing to read a story that does not have that as pairing as long as it keeps my interest, is well written with minimal spelling errors and being a long story helps. Black Sky fits all those categories and more.
